Berkeley Playhouse Founding Artistic Director Elizabeth McKoy and Producing Artistic Director Kimberly Dooley announced today that the 10th anniversary season of the award-winning theater company for all ages includes an East Bay premiere, its first staging of an acclaimed American musical, and a return of one of the biggest hits in the company's 10-year history.

In a time when Bay Area headlines feature stories about corrupt politicians, global warming, drought updates, water conservation measures, grass-roots protests, and big, revolutionary Broadway shows coming to town, Berkeley Playhouse is proud to present the three-time Tony Award-winning musical about corrupt politicians, global warming, drought updates, water conservation measures, public protests, and big, revolutionary Broadway shows (but not that one)-Urinetown, the Musical.

Berkeley Playhouse Managing Director Gretchen Feyer announced today 'SHINE!', a special benefit performance of Billy Elliot the Musical on March 24, 2017. The pre-performance event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a festive reception in the historic Julia Morgan Theater that will include cocktails, light bites, and a decadent dessert bar hosted by some of the East Bay's top restaurants, caterers, and beverage specialists including Ann's Catering, Drake's Brewing Company, Le Mediterranee, Mariposa Bakery, Nabolom Bakery, Sutro Wine, Sweet Adeline Bakeshop, and Two Local Girls. The event will also include a special announcement regarding the East Bay theater company's upcoming 10th anniversary season, launching September 2017. In addition to the reception, attendees receive premiere seating to the company's hit production of the ten-time Tony Award-winning musical Billy Elliot, The Musical that begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.

The company's first staging of the musical adaptation of the 2000 hit film includes thirty actors under the age of fifteen in two separate casts working alongside a company of professional adult actors.

Berkeley Playhouse invites Bay Area audiences to 'be their guest' this holiday season for the company's first ever staging of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Berkeley Playhouse opens up their 9th season at the historic Julia Morgan theater with Peter and the Starcatcher, the Tony Award-winning prequel to Peter Pan. Based on the acclaimed 2006 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, the thrilling stage adaptation by Rick Elice, whose Broadway credits include The Addams Family and Jersey Boys, takes flight September 22, 2016 with performances running through October 16, 2016. 

Berkeley Playhouse closes out the groundbreaking 2015-16 season with Disney's ultimate fish-out-of-water family musical, The Little Mermaid. Featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken,Disney's The Little Mermaid performs June 23-July 31, 2016 at the historic Julia Morgan Theater in Berkeley. Berkeley Playhouse will produce the first non-musical in its nine-year history with Christopher Sergel's adaptation of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. The show will be directed by Berkeley Playhouse's Producing Artistic Director Daren A.C. Carollo (Berkeley Playhouse's Peter Pan, Hairspray; Broadway: A Time to Kill; Off-Broadway: bare The Musical; Regional: Diablo Theatre Company, City Lights Theatre Company, Napa Valley Opera House, Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre, Town Hall Theatre Company).
