Canadian virtuoso pianist and composer Marc-André Hamelin has rescheduled his Portland Ovations recital at Merrill Auditorium from Saturday, February 9, 2013 to Saturday, February 16, 2013, 3 pm.
Hamelin had to reschedule several concert dates so that he can perform as part of the Festival of the Music of John Cage with Michael Tilson Thomas, Jessye Norman and the New World Symphony in Miami on February 8 - 10, celebrating the centenary of John Cage's birth.
"This is an amazing opportunity for Marc-André. We are so pleased we were all able to accommodate his need to reschedule and ensure that our audiences will still be able to experience his phenomenal musicianship," states Aimée M. Petrin, Executive Director of Portland Ovations.
Hamelin has won several awards including the 2008 Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year: Solo or Chamber Ensemble - Alkan Concerto for Solo Piano, the Carnegie Hall International Competition for American Music and the International Record Award in Cannes.
Hamelin started his piano studies at age five and went on to study at the École de musique Vincent-d'Indy in Montreal and then at Temple University in Philadelphia and has given recitals across the world on some of the most prestigious stages.
