Ogunquit Playhouse Announces ASL Performances for MISS SAIGON

Ogunquit-Playhouse-Announces-ASL-Performances-for-MISS-SAIGON-20010101

Miss Saigon, now on stage at the Ogunquit Playhouse, is receiving rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. Thanks to funding by the Donato J. Tramuto Foundation, this stunning Broadway blockbuster will be offered to the hearing impaired and deaf communities during two special performances with American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters. The first is for the general public on Thursday, October 13, at 8PM during the regularly scheduled performance. The second is for a special performance exclusively for Middle and High School students on Wednesday, October 19th at 10AM.

Joining the Ogunquit Playhouse to sign the ASL shows are Meryl C. S. Troop, Civil Rights Advocate and Staff Interpreter for Maine Center on Deafness and Esther Lee-Samia a freelance and agency contracted interpreter who is currently working for the University of Southern Maine in their Linguistics Department. Meryl is also a member of the Maine Interpreter Licensing Advisory Board, and has won numerous awards for her work as an interpreter, including the Dedicated Service Award from Department of Health and Human Services and the Excellence in Interpreting award from the Maine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Esther has interpreted for many arts programs throughout New England including the Annual Deaf Film Festival, ASL Total Immersion program, Christmas at Victoria Mansion and for performances of the Maine Gay Men's Chorus.
Tickets for the evening ASL interpreted performance on October 13th are on sale now, with prices starting at $39, through the Box Office (207-646-5511) or online at ogunquitplayhouse.org. School groups that would like to attend the October 19th student production should call the Group Sales Coordinator at 207-646-2402 ext.252. Special student rates apply and further discounts may be available for schools in need.

Miss Saigon is an epic love story based on Madame Butterfly by the creators of Les Misérables. It shares the emotional story of an American GI and his love affair with a Vietnamese girl in a world torn apart by war. From the first sound of a helicopter flying as the sun rises over Saigon during the Overture, to the show's powerful ending, Miss Saigon will take you on an incredible journey about unwavering love and self sacrifice. The emotionally powerful score features the show stopping "The Movie in My Mind," "I Still Believe," "Why God Why" and "The American Dream." This musical does contain strong language and adult themes.

Miss Saigon is on stage through October 23 at the Ogunquit Playhouse and stars Gregg Goodbrod as Chris, the soldier who falls in love with the Vietnamese girl, Kim. Gregg has appeared in many Broadway productions and National Tours, including Thoroughly Modern Millie, 9 to 5 and Les Miserables. Jennifer Paz will reprise the role of Kim from the first National Broadway Tour. Her many credits include, Les Miserables, Joseph..Dreamcoat, Flower Drum Song, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar. The role of the Engineer will be played by Broadway veteran Raul Aranas. Raul's National and International credits include The King and I and Flower Drum Song. For Miss Saigon he has won the Helen Hayes Award, Carbonell Award and a Jefferson Award Nomination. He is also the recipient of an IRNE award for his work in Pacific Overtures at North Shore Music Theatre.

Take advantage of Super Saver seats and new standard price rollbacks now available online or through the Box Office. Prices range from $39 to $76.50. The Ogunquit Playhouse is America's Foremost Summer Theatre, a 501c3 not-for-profit organization, producing the finest Broadway musicals each season, with performances Wednesday through Sunday until October 23, 2011.
