A CHILD'S GUIDE TO INNOCENCE Snowlion Repertory Company 3/15-3/23/2013
"A Child's Guide to Innocence" by Vincent Sessa poignantly explores one of the most important issues we face today: how does one find joy and happiness in a violent, cruel and seemingly evil world? In three scenes, a trio of actresses play three generations from an Italian-American family in New York struggling with the events of their lives, events that will reverberate through the ages. We meet three sisters in tension-filled 1944, a mother and her daughters in chaotic 1975, and a mother and her granddaughters in disorienting 1995. Through the lyricism and imagery of the play, we examine whether it is possible for innocence to survive and indeed flourish. The New York Times called this timely, provocative play "as delicate and nuanced a drama as you'll find, its three actresses telling a sublime intergenerational tale beautifully…It's a lovely portrait of how ordinary lives can be defined by a few pivotal moments, of how the world's great events can have a profound impact at a very small, personal level."

The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the elements that make this show a classic are still in place.
