Good Theater Announces 2012-13 Season

Good-Theater-Announces-2012-13-Season-20010101

Good Theater today announced plans for their upcoming 11th season opening in the fall of 2012, playing into spring 2013.  This upcoming season will be a season of firsts with two Maine premieres, an east coast premiere and a world premiere on the schedule.

The season will kick off on October 10 with the Maine premiere of A.R. Gurney’s THE GRAND MANNER.  The play is a tribute to the Golden Age of Broadway about Katherine Cornell, the first lady of the American stage, and her husband, director, Guthrie McClintic.   Featuring a cast of four this sweet comedy is set backstage at the Martin Beck Theatre after a performance when Ms. Cornell receives a visit from a young fan from Buffalo where Cornell grew up.  THE GRAND MANNER runs for three weeks through October 28, 2012.

STRIKING 12 is an exciting new holiday musical by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin and Valerie Vigoda. Milburn and Vigoda make up two-thirds of the group GrooveLily and Sheinkin is the author of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl inspires STRIKING 12.  This show is fun, funny and filled with groove.  Great music will have you tapping your toes and getting into the holiday spirit.  With a cast of 14 actors, musicians and singers, STRIKING 12 will fill audiences with joy playing November 14 – December 9, 2012.

Opening January 30 and playing through February 24, 2013, will be the east coast premiere of DEATH BY DESIGN by Rob Urbinati.  Described by the author as “a comedy with murder,” or Noel Coward meets Agatha ChristieDEATH BY DESIGN is a very funny, fresh new play.  The author will be in residence during the production and making minor changes to the script prior to a New York production that will follow the Good Theater engagement.  DEATH has a cast of eight.

The final show in the season will be a world premiere, UNDERWATERGUY written and performed by Stephen Underwood. Underwood is a free diver (no tank!) who will take audiences on a journey down under the lakes and rivers of Maine and beyond.  Filled with breath-taking videography, original music, stories and humor UNDERWATERGUY will be a multi-media extravaganza.   UNDERWATERGUY runs March 6 – 24, 2013.

In addition to these four main stage shows, Good Theater will also offer two short engagements of another A.R. Gurney play, ANCESTRAL VOICES.  Good Theater presented the show for one week this season and the reviews and audience reactions were so positive that the show will make two return visits during the 11th season:  November 1-4 and April 3-14, 2013.   Here’s what the Portland Press Herald had to say about the show, “Ancestral Voices is a sweet, funny snapshot of Americana, endearingly told through the eyes of a child. Good Theater has embraced the wit and warmth of A.R. Gurney's play, delivering a production heartwarming from start to finish.”

Tickets for the 2012 – 2013 go on sale in April.  The company is currently celebrating its 10th Anniversary Season with the Maine premiere of NEXT FALL running through February 19.  The final show of the 2011-2012 season, LITTLE ME, a zany musical comedy, opens March 7 and plays through April 1.
